ARTIST STATEMENT
marking the moments
I spent a year collecting vintage frames, enjoying the hunt as I explored antique shops across NC, Nashville, TN, Richmond, Va, and quaint spots in between. When I challenged myself to work in reverse by creating pieces FOR this collection of vintage frames—rather than framing for the art—I pondered the history of each frame and the marks time made upon them...bringing to mind the whole *if only they could talk.* Like scribbles marking different heights of a growing family on the back of a closet door eventually smear and fade over time, becoming almost illegible, I began this series of marks thinking of the varied ways we note time’s passing. Layers of color hint at memories once so vivid, now blurred. Lines and shapes convey feelings, sometimes peaceful and soothing; others, full of joy and energy. Regardless of the color or form, all of the marks in this body of work reflect movement. For while we cannot stop time’s steady forward march, we can reflect and contemplate the marks we make each day.
Please note, these are perfectly imperfect vintage frames so they have their little nicks and dings and, yes, marks. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me prior to purchasing. All sales are final.
