the power of words
A collection that engages the mind as much as the eye, each piece in the power of words collection visually interprets the verse “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11 NIV).
I began the power of words (or what I affectionately call my apple series) as a way to experiment with media and techniques but soon found it was allowing me to process deep-seated thoughts. These pieces are layered not only with varied media, but with meaning and symbolism.
My interest in typography is evident, and I incorporated it, along with graphic shapes and mark-making, to communicate with you. I began by working with straightforward, literal interpretations of the Scripture verse and progressed to pieces that are more abstract, both visually and conceptually. The result is 12 large-scale mixed media paintings and a subset series of small works called vessels.
